PROGRESS MADE

For more than 30 years, the Goals for St. Mark’s strategic planning process has served as a road map for the School, guiding its focus and ensuring excellence is never taken for granted. Goals for St Mark’s IV, adopted by the School’s Board of Trustees on January 10, 2017, is the fourth statement of strategic goals and replaces Goals for St. Mark’s III, which guided the School for more than a decade. Goals IV is the result of a broadly inclusive process involving Trustees, administration, faculty, parents, alumni, and students.

The School is proud to provide this first update on progress made toward the priorities identified in Goals for St Mark’s IV. Over the next several years, there will be further updates as we continue to address each of the School’s strategic objectives.

HIGHLIGHTS

Strengthening Physical & Experiential Education
This year, St. Mark’s formed a new Department Chair position to help the School realize the goal of uniting the physical and experiential education programs, expanding health and wellness education, and strengthening current programming in these areas while developing new programming as needed.
Character & Leadership Education
For years, St. Mark’s has worked to refine the theories, vocabulary, and purpose of Character & Leadership Education. Bit by bit, elements have been introduced to the Marksman experience. The 2018–2019 school year marked the most significant expansion of Character & Leadership Education into school life.
Lifelong Learners
One lesson that is constantly reinforced to all Marksmen is that education should be a lifelong endeavor. There is no better example of lifelong learners than with the St. Mark’s faculty and staff. To this end, the School approves more than a quarter-million dollars in professional development grants each year, all supported by the philanthropy of the St. Mark’s community.
Campus Improvements
Across its 40-acre campus, St. Mark's is continually investing in its physical plant. From the Science Center to the athletic facilities, the School has been hard at work ensuring every corner of the campus continues to support excellence.
